INFLUENCE OF IN-SERVICE TRAINING AND RECRUITMENT AS HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ON TEACHERS’ JOB PERFORMANCE IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN AKWA IBOM NORTH-WEST SENATORIAL DISTRICT

The main purpose of the study was to examine the extent to which in-service training and recruitment as human resource management practices influence teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population for the study comprised 3144 teachers of the 102 public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District. A total of 355 teachers constituted the sample size for the study. An instrument titled the Influence of In-service training and recruitment on Teachers’ Job Performance Questionnaire (IIRTJPQ) was used for data collection. Three experts from the University of Uyo, Uyo validated the instrument. Cronbach Alpha statistical technique was used to determine the reliability of the instrument which yielded 0.97 reliability co-efficient. The data were analysed using simple regression. R2 was used to answer the research questions, and the regression's F-value was used to test the null hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that the extent to which in-service training and recruitment influence teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District is very low. The extent to which in-service training and recruitment influence teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District is statistically significant. It was recommended among others that Government should organise regular in-service training programmes to enhance teachers' skills and knowledge for optimum performances.References
