ENTREPRENEURIAL MANAGEMENT SKILLS AND PERFORMANCE OF SMALL-SCALE BUSINESS ENTERPRISES IN EKET LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, AKWA IBOM STATE
Abstract
The study investigated the relationship between entrepreneurial management skills and performance of Small-scale business enterprises in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. Two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The study adopted a correlatonal research design. The population of the study comprised 1389 managers in registered small-scale business enterprises in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. The sample size for the study was 311 respondents drawn from the target population using Taro Yamane formula through simple random sampling technique. The instrument entitled ‘‘Entrepreneurial Management Skills and Performance of Small-scale Business Enterprises Questionnaire (EMSPSBEQ)’’ was used to generate data for this study. Face validation of the instrument was adopted in this study. The reliability of the instrument in this study was established using trial test reliability method. The data collected from the two instrument were subjected to analysis using Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient statistics and the overall reliability coefficient of 0.88 and 0.83 was obtained which was deemed adequate for the study. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used in answering the research questions and in testing the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result from the study indicated that there is a relationship between entrepreneurial management skills and performance of Small-scale business enterprises in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. The study recommended that entrepreneurs should strive to acquire entrepreneurial management skills as this will help to improve performance of their businesses. Also, training on entrepreneurial management skills should be carry out periodically to enable them to develop the ability to their business enterprises effectively.References
